A new week with new features

Welcome if you are just joining in. We are building the next open source social network with the most common features and more. Since transparency is also one of our core beliefs we describe here in detail what software we used.

This week we'll dive in the Architecture a bit deeper. As a developer we are constantly bargaining between stability and functionality, so that is why new features are not unlocked right away. The upgrades are coming nevertheless.

Five main packages (and a load of other applications) make this the site you see for your eyes: multifunctional and adaptable. More on that later. First let's see what is under the hood.

Under the Hood

1) WordPress ( Current version: 6.1.1 – Last checked on 13 December 2022 at 13:17 CET)


WordPress is a free and open-source content management system written in hypertext preprocessor language and paired with a MySQL or MariaDB database with supported HTTPS. Features include a plugin architecture and a template system, referred to within WordPress as “Themes”

2) PHP (8.2 bèta) – secure database solutions

PHP is a general-purpose scripting language geared toward web development. It was originally created by Danish-Canadian programmer Rasmus Lerdorf in 1993 and released in 1995. The PHP reference implementation is now produced by The PHP Group.

3) Buddypress – community features

BuddyPress is an open-source social networking software package owned by Automattic since 2008. It is a plugin that can be installed on WordPress to transform it into a social network platform. BuddyPress is designed to allow schools, companies, sports teams, or any other niche community to start their own social network or communication tool

4) bbpress – forum features

WordPress is a content management system based on PHP and MySQL that is usually used with the MySQL or MariaDB database servers but can also use the SQLite database engine. Features include a plugin architecture and a template system, referred to inside WordPress as Themes.

5) Gamipress – gamification applications

GamiPress is a free WordPress gamification plugin. It enables you to incorporate features common in gameplay into your website, such as point systems and competition between users. One of the most common examples of gamification is that of Starbucks loyalty program.
